Working to become NC’s Clean Energy Coast, Wilmington is home to a slew of sustainability and renewable energy initiatives, including the Clean Energy Policy Task Force, which advocates locally for such efforts and various statewide energy resilience programs. The city government has also approved plans to transition to a 100% renewable energy vehicle fleet by the year 2050 with goals to optimize energy efficiency of municipal buildings and operations.

New Hanover County, where Wilmington is the county seat, helps keep residents safe with access to a variety of resources that can help mitigate the impact of a natural disaster. The New Hanover County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) provides training to individuals and organizations to help prepare them for emergency situations. While the county’s brand new emergency operations center and emergency alert system provides residents with critical and timely information about how to respond to inclement weather.
