According to PODS.com’s Moving Trends, many people are relocating to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama in 2024. The Carolinas are especially favored due to their low cost of living, high quality of life, access to nature, and vibrant metro areas.

Companies Flocking to the South

Companies are also moving to southern sunbelt states like Texas, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, and Tennessee. These states offer lower operational costs, tax incentives, and better employee value. Cities like Austin, Atlanta, Phoenix, Raleigh, and Nashville are popular relocation choices. This trend is mirrored by American families seeking new homes in sunny southern states. Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Georgia have become especially popular. Over 60% of the most moved-to cities are in these regions. The Carolinas alone account for 30% of the top 20 cities with the most move-ins.

Popular Destinations

North and South Carolina cities dominate the list of destinations with the highest move-ins. Myrtle Beach, SC/Wilmington, NC holds the top spot for the second consecutive year. Other North Carolina cities like Charlotte, Raleigh, and Asheville have also gained popularity.

Newcomers to the Rankings

New cities making their debut in the rankings include Atlanta, GA; Johnson City, TN; Huntsville, AL; Dover, DE; and Greensboro, NC. Raleigh, NC, stands out for its remarkable leap from 20th to 6th place. The appeal of the Carolinas lies in their beautiful landscapes, affordable living, high quality of life, vibrant culture, and growing economies. Cities like Charlotte, Raleigh, and Asheville are particularly attractive due to their strong job markets, creative communities, and welcoming atmospheres. As a result, the Carolinas are emerging as top destinations for both new residents and businesses in 2024.
