Wilmington Ambassadors

Sarah Scully

Sarah Scully, a project manager at Vantaca and Army veteran, thrives in Wilmington’s vibrant community, blending career opportunities, coastal beauty, and outdoor adventures.

Sarah was born and raised in Massachusetts, then moved to Columbia, SC for college. Sarah then served in the U.S. Army for six years. She could’ve chosen anywhere to plant her roots, but she chose Wilmington because it reminded her of places like Charleston and Savannah but had more opportunities for her. Sarah’s family moved to Wilmington in 2018, which helped convince her to make the move to the east coast. She now calls Wilmington North Carolina’s best-kept secret.

“There’s always something to do, no matter the season. Whether it’s a concert along the riverfront in the summer or a bonfire on the beach in the winter, you just can’t beat it.”

Sarah says Wilmington is big enough that there’s always something new to do, but it’s small enough to build a strong network in your career. Sarah moved to Wilmington before she secured a job. Still, she’s glad she could take advantage of the ample networking opportunities to meet people in the business community and learn about the growing industries in Wilmington.

Since moving to Wilmington, Sarah has started her own podcast, “The Women in the Arena,” talking to women veterans to showcase their challenges and triumphs during their service. Being in close proximity to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, it’s been easy to find those veterans to connect with.

Working just minutes from the beach is a huge plus for Sarah. She says she runs to the beach right after work, sometimes pinching herself because she feels so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Sarah knew she wanted to enjoy her time outside of the office, and after two years of living in Wilmington, she did just that. “You can have the best of both worlds living in a place like this.”  She says the people and culture here, aside from the breathtaking views everywhere you go, are what make her stay here year after year.

“There’s always something to do, no matter the season. Whether it’s a concert along the riverfront in the summer or a bonfire on the beach in the winter, you just can’t beat it.”
